Diri signs Bayelsa’s N699.7bn 2025 budget into law

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, raising hopes for improved governance and development in the state.

The bill, initially presented by the governor on October 31 with a proposed figure of N689.4 billion, was increased by N10.1 billion to N699.7 billion by the House of Assembly.

This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah.

Speaking during the signing ceremony at the Government House, Yenagoa, Diri emphasised his administration’s commitment to operating a January-to-December fiscal cycle.

He described the budget as not just a financial plan but a legal instrument that must be diligently implemented.

“This budget, tagged the ‘Budget of Assured Prosperity,’ reflects our administration’s unwavering commitment to transparency, good governance, and improving the quality of life for our people,” Diri stated.

The governor expressed gratitude to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, and the lawmakers for their timely passage of the bill. He lauded their dedication and urged them to maintain their service-oriented approach.

He said, “Your leadership speaks volumes. The House has been diligent and prolific in its work. The timely passage of the budget is a testament to your dedication to Bayelsa State.”

Diri further directed all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to align their proposals with the approved budget, expressing confidence that its implementation would positively impact the people.

“We have prioritized critical sectors that will enhance the quality of life of our people. Every project under this budget must have a tangible impact on the lives of Bayelsans,” he added.
