Niger State government of Umaru Bago has warned residents of Basa in the Shiroro Local Government Area that terrorists have begun planting bombs in farms along the fringes of the area.
The government advised locals to continue restricting their movement to avoid potential explosions.
The Commissioner for Homeland Security, Bello Abdullahi, issued the statement in Minna following the 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities (BASA) at the 013 Quick Response Force, Nigerian Air Force Minna, Channels TV reports.
Abdullahi clarified that the military must first clear the suspected mine-laden areas before local movement can resume safely.
He highlighted the growing threat posed by terrorists planting bombs, emphasising the ongoing military efforts to curb terrorism and banditry in the region.
Governor Umaru Bago, represented by Abdullahi, reiterated the government’s dependence on the military to clear the areas of mines in Shiroro.
Group Captain Austine Idoko, commander of the 013 Quick Response Force, assured continued military operations to rid the state of terrorism and banditry under the Chief of Air Staff’s guidance.
On December 19, 2024, three bomb explosions in the Bassa community of Shiroro killed three people and injured five.
