A group of Ijaw women have blocked the road in Asari Toru LGA of Rivers state to stop Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), who is expected to visit the area today.
Fubara and Wike have been locked in a supremacy battle over control of the political structure of the state.
The rift has led to the polarisation of various interest groups in the state.
Recently, Wike reportedly referred to the Ijaw people as “minority of minorities in Rivers and other south-south states except Bayelsa.”
According to reports, the women are showing solidarity with the Ijaw people following Wike’s statement against the ethnic group located in the Niger Delta region.
The women staged a massive protest on the road to stop the former governor from passing through the road to attend an event organised to honour him.
On Friday, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) appealed to President Bola Tinubu to call Wike to order over his comments on the Ijaw.
