Awoniyi joins newly promoted Nottingham Forest in record move

Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi has joined newly promoted Nottingham Forest in the Premier League for a club-record fee of about £17 million.

The move was confirmed on the Forest website on Saturday morning.

“Nottingham Forest are delighted to confirm the signing of Nigerian international forward Taiwo Awoniyi for a club record fee.

Awoniyi, who finished last season with Bundesliga side, Union Berlin, and scored 18 goals in all competitions before he joined Steve Cooper’s side, is hoping to help the former European champions cement their place in the top tier of English football after a 23-year absence.

In joining Forest, Awoniyi said, “I’m very excited to be here at Nottingham Forest.

“It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League and having spoken to Steve Cooper about our ambitions and looking at Forest, with its great history, it’s a club that I want to be part of.”
