The Federal Government has announced the suspension of the proposed 5% Excise Duty on telecommunications services.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami who said this also inaugurated a committee to review the policy to determine the next line of action.
Pantami noted that the suspension followed his petition as the Chairman of the Presidential Council on Digital Economy and eGovernment on the negative impact the new tax will have on the sector especially the telecommunications which is already overburdened with 41 taxes including multiple taxation.
The Commitee is chaired by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy with members including Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission, Professor Umar Danbatta, Executive Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service, Muhammad Nami and representatives of Mobile Network Operators
