Christianity in America is declining, but here’s why that gives this podcasting priest hope


The decrease in Americans identifying as Christian could prove to be “good news,” a podcasting priest told Fox News.

“There’s something about that that is potentially hopeful,” Father Mike Schmitz told Fox News. “Because maybe for the first time in generations, we actually know where people are standing.” 

In 1990, 90% of U.S. adults raised Christian still identified that way in their 30s compared to just 65% in 2020, a September Pew Research Center poll found. Similarly, 31% of people over 30 who were raised Christian identified as religiously unaffiliated in 2020, compared to just 8% in 1990.
