The UN has expressed willingness to continue to support all Nigeria’s political parties to respect their commitments under their peace accord.
All 18 registered political parties in Nigeria signed a peace pact on the 2023 general elections on Wednesday, coordinated by the National Peace Committee.
The peace pact entails that all political parties accept the outcome of the elections or seek legitimate means of redress in the event of divergent positions.
Spokesman Stephanie Dujarric in New York said the UN, which witnessed the signing of the accord, would continue to support that it is respected.
Mr Dujarric said through the political engagements of the UN Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), the partnership with the NPC – the main convener of the peace accord signing events – was reinforced ahead of the 2023 general elections.
