The potential banking crisis is so bad that it got President Joe Biden out of bed at 9 a.m. to do his job.
Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, now a host on MSNBC, said Monday she was surprised to see her old boss delivering a speech on the state of the U.S. banking system. Biden likely wanted to assure the public before the stock market opened, although bank stocks were promptly pummeled anyway.
“Now, it’s important to note, President Biden does nothing at 9 a.m. He is a night owl,” she said. “So the fact that he is doing this at 9 a.m. speaks to how vital the White House recognizes it is.”

But Psaki’s claim that Biden’s work habits differed from those of former presidents Obama and Trump, who were known to work late into the night, did not jibe with prior reports.
“Unlike his most recent predecessors – night owls who spent the dark hours reading briefing materials, Biden is more of an early-to-bed type,” a 2021 CNN article claimed.

Other reports indicate that Biden has a pretty leisurely morning: Maybe a cup of coffee. Some early morning workouts. A nice chat with Jill. Then he strolls over for his daily briefing after 9 a.m. His daily schedule sounds more like that of a retirement home resident than the commander-in-chief.
When Biden isn’t at the White House, he can often be found taking long weekends at his Delaware beach house. Biden has now spent roughly 40% of his time in the Oval Office on vacation. On those trips, there’s reason to believe that he’s using classified documents to house-train his newest dog, Commander.
Whatever the case, Biden was up and at ’em Monday morning to make sure that Silicon Valley Bank’s depositors were taken care of. It seems that when his potential donors are troubled, nothing can stop him from coming to the rescue.
In his haste though, Biden could actually be making the situation worse in the long haul. Since the Biden administration is moving to make Silicon Valley Bank whole, 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy argued the president was sending the wrong message to bankers.
“Crony capitalism & fear-mongering reign supreme in America,” he tweeted. “The FDIC only insures deposits up to $250,000. By selectively changing the rules after the fact for SVB, the U.S. government now incentivizes greater risk-taking by banks & depositors in the future…”
