Messi edges Ronaldo; becomes all-time Europe club goalscorer

Lionel Messi has overtaken long running rival Cristiano Ronaldo to become the highest goalscorer ever in Europe.

The Argentine World Cup winner set yet another record in European football when he scored for his club, PSG in a Ligue 1 match against OG Nice.

It was Messi’s 702nd goal in Europe, edging out co-superstar Ronaldo.

Before Saturday, Messi and Ronaldo both had scored 701 goals for their respective clubs in Europe.

Messi, 35, reached 1,000 goal contributions mark, having done 298 assists in European football, playing for Spanish side Barcelona and PSG.

With Ronaldo, 38, currently plying his trade in Saudi Arabia, Messi could hold the highest goalscorer record in European club football for a long time.
