Group disowns member calling for investigation of Nigeria Electrification Project by Tinubu

The coalition of West African Investigative Journalists, COWAFIJ has sacked and dissociated itself from a former member, Gboyega Adeoye over a recent report calling on President Bola Tinubu to investigate the Nigeria Electrification Project, NEP.

Gboyega who claimed to be the Secretary-General of CWAFIJ, had, during a press conference in Lagos at the weekend, asked the president to initiate an investigation into the spending of over $550m (N426 billion) repayable grant by the Nigeria Electrification Project, NEP.

He alleged that NEP, a unit of the Rural Electrification Agency, REA, obtained the loan from World Bank and African Development Bank under the current Managing Director of REA.

But the president of CWAFIJ, Femi Adebayo who spoke with reporters in Lagos on Tuesday, condemned what he termed as a crackdown on government officials in the country by some suspended members of the body who wants the president to sack officials just for their personal gains.
