The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has disown an individual claiming on social media to be his son.
A video went viral on social media with a grown man claiming to be a son to the monarch, who was living in affluence with his mother but was tired of living in obscurity.
The man threatened in the video to storm the palace in two weeks, if the Ooni refused to make public his (stranger’s) identity to the palace, to reclaim his rightful place.
Reacting to the development through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Moses Olafare, the palace described the claim of the said individual as shameless and condemnable.
The statement also described the said person as a fraudulent individual whose claim is meant to exploit the revered status of the monarch and to achieve illegal personal gains.
While calling on the security operatives, especially the Police and the DSS to investigate the matter with a view to bringing the individual to book, the statement added that said the person was unknown to the palace neither is he related to Ogunwusi or any royal family in the town.
It reads partly, “It is imperative to clarify that the Ooni of Ife, as a responsible father and custodian of tradition, knows and acknowledges all his children and stops at nothing to take full responsibilities over them(both those who are in Nigeria and outside the country).
“As all of Ooni’s children are well known to the palace and the people of Ile-Ife, the eldest child of the Ooni is Princess Adeola Ogunwusi, a Master Degree holder working and residing in Canada, followed by Princess Adewamiwa Ogunwusi who recently relocated to further her education in Dublin, Ireland from where she had come 3 years ago for her secondary school education in her home country Nigeria.
