August 1: Troublemakers warned as Police, Niger Govt differ over Suleja protest

The Niger State Police command has announced that it would not tolerate any act of violence in the state during the planned nationwide protests.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamm, issued the warning in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun.

The CP noted that the Command is not oblivious that peaceful protest is a right, but it will not accept violent protest.

However, DAILY POST reports that before the planned date, some youths on Monday took to the streets of Suleja along the Abuja-Kaduna road to protest the rising cost of living in the country while chanting anti-government songs.

They wielded placards with inscriptions such as ‘Enough is Enough’, ‘Stop Anti-Masses Policies’, ‘We Are Not Slaves In Our Country’, ‘Hardship Is Unbearable’, ‘Fuel Subsidy Must Be Back’, among others.
