Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Thursday night decried the dimensions of the ongoing EndBadGovernance protest in the country.
DAILY POST reports that Nigerians across many states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, took to the streets as they commenced an earlier announced 10-day protest against hardship in the country.
However, the first day of the protest witnessed widespread violence and lootings across major cities, with many protesters reported dead.
The major flashpoints were in Kano, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, FCT Abuja, Niger, Jigawa and Nasarawa States.
Some of the states have already imposed curfew in a bid to contain the situation.
Addressing a press conference, the IGP, who knocked the promoters of the protest for being nowhere around to lead it, urged them to end it.
He said the security agencies had been vindicated in their earlier intelligence that the protest would turn violent.
