The media office of Yahaya Bello says the former governor of Kogi was at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja but was asked to leave without being interrogated.
On Wednesday, Ohiare Michael, director of Bello’s media office, said the former governor had “honoured the invitation” of the anti-graft agency over alleged money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of N80.2 billion.
Michael said Bello honoured the EFCC’s invitation “after due consultations with his family, legal team, and political allies”.
However, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, in a statement, denied that the former governor was in the agency’s custody, adding that Bello remains wanted.
But Bello’s media office has insisted that their principal was at the EFCC headquarters in the company of Usman Ododo, the incumbent governor of Kogi.
