#EndBadGovernance protest: Police demand apology, retraction of Amnesty report

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has formally written to Amnesty International demanding an immediate retraction and public apology over a publication titled ‘Bloody August: Nigeria Government’s Violent Crackdown on Bad Governance Protests’ during the August 2024 End Bad Governance protests.

This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi’.

According to the letter dated 6th January 2025, “The publication in question, which includes numerous unsubstantiated claims, falsely accuses the Nigeria Police of human rights violations, police brutality, and excessive violence during the August 2024 End Bad Governance protests. Upon careful review and investigation, the NPF categorically rejects these baseless allegations, affirming that the claims are entirely false and without foundation.”
