Nigerian Senate is set to conduct a public hearing on President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s controversial tax reform bills before the National Assembly.
The bills will be laid bare before stakeholders in the tax industry, experts, civil society organisations, corporate organisations, and others for a thorough evaluation of their pros and cons before the report is reverted to the Committee of the Whole.
The Chairman of the Senate Adhoc Committee, Abba Moro, told newsmen that a consensus has been reached that the whole process must be synthesised.
He made the disclosure after over two hours of a closed-door session on Monday with the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Zacch Adedeji; Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele; and Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, Dr Mohammed Bello Shehu.
