IGP Egbetokun seeks urgent removal of Police from budget regime

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Thursday, demanded the immediate removal of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) from the envelope budgetary regime to allow for accurate funding projections that would enhance optimal operations of the force.

IGP Egbetokun made the demand when he appeared before the National Assembly Joint Committees on Police Affairs and Police Institutions in Abuja along with the Force Management Team and other Senior Police Officers for the defence of the 2025 force budget

He pointed out the removal would enable greater flexibility and ensure the availability of funds to manage the Force more effectively.

He also highlighted the need for the approval and creation of a Special Operations Account dedicated solely to national security emergencies, as well as an increase in allocations for Overhead and Capital Expenditure.
