Court restrains FRSC from impounding vehicles with faded number plates

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) lacks the authority to impound vehicles or penalize drivers for faded number plates.

Delivering the judgment on Friday, Justice Akintayo Aluko prohibited the FRSC from enforcing such measures, following a lawsuit filed by Chinwike Ezebube, a legal practitioner, on February 13, 2024.

Naija News gathered that Justice Aluko, in the judgment, clarified that the relevant issuing authorities, not the drivers or vehicle owners, are responsible for maintaining the clarity and visibility of vehicle number plates.

Consequently, the court ruled that drivers should not be liable for faded plates.
