Akarigbo, Gbenga Daniel make case for creation of state from old Ijebu Province

SENATOR representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Chief Gbenga Daniel, has said that the creation of a new state out of the old Ijebu Province in the present Ogun State is long overdue and achievable.

He made this declaration on Friday just as the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, called for a new beginning in the agitation “in an atmosphere of conviviality and brotherhood.”

The meeting is a follow-up to a similar meeting held at the palace of the Awujale of Ijebuland in December 2024.

Speaking at the Remo Traditional Council Stakeholders’ Meeting on the creation of a new state held at the Akarigbo’s Palace, Sagamu, Senator Daniel noted that the creation of a state out of the old Ijebu Province could have happened some 28 years ago.

He explained that the opportunity was lost for various reasons, failure of the stakeholders to come to an agreement on certain parameters.
