Police vow to enforce third party insurance compliance in A’Ibom from February 1

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it will soon commence the enforcement of third party insurance policy compliance in the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said in a statement in Uyo, the state capital, on Sunday that the enforcement would commence on February 1.

John said that the enforcement was in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun.

She said that enforcement was also in line with Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Section 312 of the 1945 Motor Vehicle Third Party Insurance Act.

The police spokesman stated that third party insurance was a legal requirement for all private vehicle owners to operate their vehicles on public roads.

She said that the exercise was designed to protect road users, ensure accountability and promote compliance with traffic laws.
