Clear cargoes in 30 days or risk forfeiture, Customs tells importers, exporters

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has given importers and exporters a grace period of 30-days after vessel discharge to clear their cargoes from the ports or risk forfeiture.

Disclosing this in a statement signed on Tuesday by the Customs National Spokesman, Abdullahi Maiwada, the Customs explained that any import or export container still inside the ports after 30-days will enjoy a grace period of 60 days subject to approvals from the Customs Area Controllers and the Assistant Comptroller General/Zonal Coordinator before being forfeited.

According to the NCS statement, “The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) will commence implementation of new guidelines regulating the dwelling time for import and export consignments at port terminals, reflecting its commitment to trade facilitation in line with the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business initiatives.
