  • La La Lund

Asked if Rasmus Hojlund would be a consideration for flop of the season, McCoist added: "No chance.

"Caicedo would certainly get it, Onana would get it before Hojlund for me, no doubt about it.

“I know Hojlund hasn’t been scoring as regularly, particularly domestically. But there’s a willingness, there’s an eagerness, there’s a desire which a lot of the United fans can see and they’ll always cut players a lot more slack that are totally committed – and so they should.

“I get a bit of stick for giving Hojlund stick for missing chances, but that’s my job to give an honest opinion. But I don’t mind the fact that he keeps going and gets into the positions and scored a good goal against Spurs the other week.

“You’ve got to remember he’s young as well so there’s no way he would come into my thinking as a flop at this stage.”

  • Caice closed

Ally McCoist has named Moises Caicedo as his transfer flop of the season, pipping two Manchester United stars to the unwanted title.

Responding to a suggestion that United goalkeeper Andre Onana is the flop of the season, McCoist said: "He’s nothing like the signing everybody thought he would be but I’m not giving him flop of the season so far.

    “I think that’s just ever-so-slightly harsh..”

Discussing Caicedo, the Scottish football legend said: "I’ve got to say, I saw him a couple of times, particularly at Old Trafford him and Enzo Fernandez – both of them, to be honest with you – a quarter of a billion pounds…

“Caicedo would certainly get my vote before Onana, to be honest with you."

  • Sancho injury

Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic has confirmed that Jadon Sancho has suffered a muscle injury.

He said: "Jadon currently has muscular problems in the adductor area, which is not surprising after his long break.

“We will wait and see how things develop over the next two days and decide at short notice whether he will travel with us to Heidenheim."

  • ‘Not ideal’

Wolves boss Gary O'Neil says it’s a ‘bad idea’ to hold a Premier League match on the same evening as the transfer deadline.

Wolves host Manchester United tonight with kick-off at 8:15pm ahead of the January transfer window closing at 11pm.

O'Neil said: "I don't like the transfer window closing on a match day, it's a bad idea.

“I need to be 100% focused on the game, but there may be stuff going on that may need input from me as well.

“From a management point of view, it's not ideal having to deal with the last day of a transfer window and a game on the same day.

"If I have to make a choice between the two, it will be 100% focus on the game.

“The recruitment team have got everything in hand and are working really hard on trying to do something to help the group. Hopefully we'll be able to get a few bits done and have a successful day on the pitch as well."

talkSPORT.com will have live coverage of the game tonight.

  • Legends on Rashford

Roy Keane and Gary Neville have voiced their concerns about the ongoing situation surrounding Marcus Rashford.

Keane told Stick to Football: "He’s 26, we’ve all been there and made daft mistakes.

“I don’t think his attitude is one of not caring about the game, but his behaviour is that of an idiot. He’s making a few mistakes on the back of each other.

“He’s high-profile now, we see people out there on their phones, wanting to ring in and get players in trouble. He’s giving people that opportunity to go after him."

Neville added: “I’m a little bit worried about him.

"I think when someone who's been as peaceful and quiet for the last seven or eight years – almost in some ways perfect for 10 years in terms of his behaviour – and then the last four months, there’s a couple of things that’s happened.

"I always think, ‘Is he alright?’ ‘What’s going on him with him?’ He’s either struggling or he’s thought, ‘I don’t give a f**k’. It’s one of those two things and I don’t think it’s that [the latter], but he’s getting a lot of attention.”

  • Injury boost

Manchester United have confirmed that Victor Lindelof is back training with the first-team squad.

The Sweden skipper, who last played for United in the 2-1 win over Chelsea in December, is still recovering from surgery on a minor groin issue.

The club have confirmed Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire are fully fit again while Tyrell Malacia is back training out on the grass having missed the entire season to date.

  • United youngster to leave

Manchester United are reportedly set to sell Isak Hansen-Aaroen to Werder Bremen.

Fabrizio Romano has said the two clubs are exchanging documents today over a deal for the 19-year-old midfielder.

The Norwegian is set to undergo his medical in Bremen later today and will sign a contract until June 2028.

  • All quiet at Old Trafford

Manchester United are not expected to conduct any significant Deadline Day activity today.

talkSPORT’s Alex Crook has revealed Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be keeping his powder dry ahead of a big summer.

United are expected to splash out again at the end of the season with several targets in the pipeline.

  • In case you missed it!

Reports emerged last night that Jose Mourinho has ‘made it his mission’ to return to Manchester United.

According to the Daily Mail, Mourinho feels he has 'unfinished business' at Old Trafford and is keen to work with the new regime at the club, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.

Mounriho, who won the League Cup and Europa League with the Red Devils, was sacked by Roma earlier this month.

  • Ten Hag's future in doubt

talkSPORT's Alan Brazil isn't convinced that Erik ten Hag will be Manchester United manager for much longer.

The Dutchman enjoyed a good first season at Old Trafford, winning the Carabao Cup, finishing third in the Premier League and reaching the FA Cup final.

However, Man United are out of Europe, way out of the top-four race and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

There have also been several poor displays that indicate tactical problems and Brazil thinks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe now in place, Man United might be looking for a new manager sooner rather than later.

  • Rashford linked with shock Premier League switch

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Marcus Rashford's situation at Manchester United ahead of a potential summer move.

Football Insider claim the Gunners looked into recruiting the England international in 2022.

But with Rashford's future at Old Trafford starting to look a bit bleak after a few off-the-field incidents and his poor form this year, there have been suggestions Rashford could move on.

Now, he has just signed a new long-term contract, so the Red Devils would be able to command a huge fee for the forward, while selling to Arsenal might not appeal to them at all.

  • Deadline day outgoing

Manchester United have confirmed that Facundo Pellistri has completed a loan to Granada for the remainder of the season.

The Uruguayan winger will look to help the side avoid relegation fro LaLiga.

    Granada are currently 19th.

Pellistri has made 14 senior appearances for the Red Devils this season, but it was decided he needed more game time somewhere else.

  • No way Jose

Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing a sensational return to Manchester United for his next job.

The Special One was sacked by AS Roma earlier this month but feels he has 'unfinished business' at Old Trafford, report the Daily Mail.

Mourinho managed United from the summer 2016 to December 2018 but the Portuguese coach wants to work with the new regime at Old Trafford, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.

During his time in charge of the Red Devils, Mourinho lifted the Europa League and Carabao Cup in his first year before finishing runners-up to Manchester City in his second - something he has claimed was among his best achievements as a manager.

  • No Rash move

Manchester United are NOT looking to offload Marcus Rashford in the wake of his drunken night out in Belfast, talkSPORT understands.

Rashford is believed to have been fined fined £650,000, the equivalent of two weeks wages, as punishment for calling in sick for training last Friday hours after being spotted leaving a nightclub.

He was also dropped for Sunday's unconvincing FA Cup fourth round win at League Two Newport.

That has led to speculation United could be looking to cut their losses on the England international at the end of the season.

But United still see Rashford, who has previously attracted interest from French giants PSG, as an important part of their future.

  • Gard up

West Ham boss David Moyes believes Kalvin Phillips can have a similar impact to when Jesse Lingard joined from Manchester United.

Lingard memorably scored nine goals in 16 league matches to help the Hammers finish sixth after signing on loan from United in 2021.

"This time a couple of years ago we got Jesse Lingard, he really helped us," said Moyes.

"I'm hoping Kalvin can have a similar impact as what Jesse had."

  • Con artist

Leicester City defender Conor Coady has lifted the lid on the problems facing England pal Marcus Rashford at Manchester United.

He explained: "It's hard to put my finger on it having known him and spent time in his company, obviously being with England and different things.

"I've seen him in a different light, sitting down and having a coffee with him, him being a top fella and speaking about Manchester United.

"So, seeing these things in the press, you look at it and you think, 'What is actually going on?' Something is happening, everybody can see it. But whether that is with United or Marcus, I am not sure."

  • ‘We can beat anyone’

More from Erik ten Hag’s press conference ahead of Man United’s trip to Wolves tomorrow.

He said: "With players returning from long-term injuries the team will be stronger and that helps the motivation and spirit in the team.

"Every game we have to see as a final and have to get the best out of it. This team has so much experience, they know that. I'm quite positive now we've got most of our players back.

"We know we have to catch up. The team will be stronger. When you lose players in crucial positions, it weakens your team. And when you have to swap and change every game it doesn't help.

"We have to keep them fit now and get them into better form. Then the results will be better.

"We are quite confident because on our best days, we can beat anyone, but on our worst days we go down to certain limits that are not acceptable.

"We have to push our limits to higher levels that enable us to get results. Then we know when we are at our best we can beat everyone. The squad is convinced about this."

  • 'Case closed'

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insists it’s ‘case closed’ on Marcus Rashford but has called upon all his players to show discipline on and off the pitch.

Ten Hag said: "Rashford has taken responsibility and for the rest it is an internal matter. Case closed.

"It is nothing to do with that (respect). As I say, let's focus on the game. I think the statement is clear and we have to focus on winning football games.

"In football you need discipline on the pitch but also off the pitch - there is a line between. Every professional knows what is required. We have to focus on winning football games, that's all that matters. Every top professional knows what is required.

"The last two Premier League games, two goals and an assist - he is developing a strong bond with Rasmus Hojlund and we want to continue that process."

  • Onana had enough?

Andre Onana could reportedly call time on his international career following Cameroon’s woeful display at AFCON.

The Manchester United goalkeeper delayed his departure to the tournament and then played just one of their four matches before crashing out to Nigeria in the last 16.

The Sun report Onana is now considering his future with Cameroon and could retire from international duty.

  • Rash back

Manchester United have said Marcus Rashford is set to be available for selection for their trip to Wolves tomorrow night.

Rashford’s absence from United’s squad for their FA Cup win over Newport on Sunday has been well-publicised this week.

United return to action with a Premier League visit to Molineux and the club say Rashford is in contention to feature again.

Andre Onana is due back from the Africa Cup of Nations and is also set to face Wolves.

  • PSG eye Rashford

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly considering a bid for Marcus Rashford this summer.

The i Newspaper claim the Ligue 1 champions, who failed in an attempt to land the 26-year-old last summer, are ready to rekindle their interest following Rashford’s recent indiscipline.

Manchester United currently have no plans to sell the England superstar but their resolve is set to be tested by PSG.

It is said the French giants will continue to monitor Rashford over the rest of the season and could move for him should his situation not improve.

  • Amad window so far

It's been a transfer window full of rumours for Manchester United winger Amad Diallo.

And they continue to persist with Sunderland still keen on bringing him in on loan before the deadline.

A move could still happen for Diallo with the Black Cats' sporting director speaking on the links.

Kristjaan Speakman has said: "The situation is clear. We have a positive relationship with the boy, his people and Manchester United.

"Can he improve us? Yes. Have we enquired? Yes. Have we kept in contact with him? Yes. My head would be on a stake if not!

"Even if he became available we might not get him. I regard him as a tier one player. He is a tier one player.

"We would be lucky if we got him on loan again. The level he can play at. He loved his time here. He loved the players and staff."

  • Say bye to Serhou

Manchester United's chances of signing Serhou Guirassy have taken a blow after his release clause expired.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Guirassy's clause is no longer in his contract, meaning a cut-price deal won't happen anymore.

United will shift their focus onto other striker targets with a move in this window unlikely with the deadline looming.

  • Money, money, money

A record £7.6billion was spent on international transfer deals in 2023, according to a new report from FIFA.

English clubs led the way, spending £2.3bn across the January and summer windows last year, out of a total which smashed the previous single-year record set in 2019 by more than £1.5m.

Chelsea were unsurprisingly identified as Europe's top spenders on international deals, with five other English teams in the top 10 and a further five in the top 20.

The top 10 player transfers alone generated more than 10 per cent of the entire amount spent on transfer fees in 2023.

FIFA's top 10 included Jude Bellingham's move to Real Madrid, Enzo Fernandez's switch to Chelsea and Rasmus Hojlund's transfer to Manchester United. An English team was the buying club in six of those top 10 deals.

  • Olise update

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has opened up on the future of rumoured Man United target Michael Olise.

He said: “My thoughts are it would be a sad day for the club [if he left].

“I am certain the club would like him to honour [his long-term deal] and to improve the team around players like him.

“We need to make the team stronger and not lose them to other Premier League clubs who are putting some money on the table.

“But at the moment that isn’t our concern, it’s these [upcoming] games. I’m certainly counting on him to play his part in that and the summer will have to take care of itself.”
