The PUNCH: The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, on Thursday, said the Nigerian economy was overdue to go cashless as the Federal Government had sufficiently invested in the required payment system infrastructure to make the transition seamless. Emefiele said this shortly after meeting the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at his native hometown of Daura, Katsina State.


The Guardian: Amid repeated assurances from President Muhammadu Buhari and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) towards a credible and hitch-free 2023 general elections, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, yesterday, in a startling revelation, disclosed that security agencies are under intense pressure from all corners to compromise the elections.


The Nation: Possible adjustments to the cash withdrawal limit has not been ruled out, but the January 9 take-off for the policy is sacrosanct, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said yesterday. CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, who dropped the hint yesterday, said the plan, which he described as the continuation of the apex bank’s monetary policy direction, has the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari


Daily Trust: The Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and other stakeholders in the oil sector to resolve the current fuel crisis. The secret service police vowed to go after them if queues did not disappear after 48 hours. DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, announced the ultimatum in Abuja while addressing reporters after the Director-General of DSS, Yusuf Bichi, met with the stakeholders in the industry. The meeting was attended by officials of the NNPC Ltd, IPMAN, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) as well as Depot and Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPMAN).
