1. President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has extended an olive branch to his opponents, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, after the contentious presidential election in which he was declared the winner on Wednesday. Tinubu said political competition must now give way to conciliation and inclusive governance.
2. The Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party has vowed to challenge the outcome of the February 25 presidential election that returned the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, as President-elect. 4. A Magistrate Court in Kano has remanded the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, at a correctional facility over charges of culpable homicide and arson. Doguwa was taken before Court 58 of the Magistrate Court in Nomansland area of the state metropolis Wednesday evening following his arrest at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport late Tuesday.
5. The Labour Party, LP, candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi has promised to address Nigerians following the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. He stated this in a tweet on Wednesday.
6. Nigeria’s President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was yesterday in Daura, Katsina State where he met with President Muhammadu Buhari. This came a few hours after Tinubu was presented with a Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
7. United Kingdom prime minister, Rishi Sunak has congratulated Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Tinubu on his victory in the 2023 presidential election. “Congratulations to Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory in Nigeria,” Sunak tweeted Wednesday.
8. Senator representing Borno South in the Senate, Mohammad Ndume has said the Boko Haram attack in his hometown, Gwoza, on election day prevented many voters from casting their ballots. Ndume in a session with journalists on Wednesday in Maiduguri said only about 20,000 out of the 137,000 registered voters voted in last Saturday’s elections.
9. Traders have been counting their losses as an early morning fire erupted at Kurni Market in Kano, leaving six permanent and 74 temporary shops razed. The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
10. A hoodlum, identified simply as Adedeji, aka Skye, has allegedly shot a lady, Halimat Abowaba, to death on Abeokuta Street, behind the Agege Stadium, in the Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State. It was gathered that Adedeji, alongside other hoodlums, were celebrating the victory of a political party on Abeokuta Street when he suddenly brought out a gun and started shooting indiscriminately.
