Reports on growing opposition to the planned hike in electricity tariff dominate the front pages of Nigerian newspapers today.
The Punch reports that the Debt Management Office (DMO) has warned that the federal government’s projected revenue of N10 trillion for 2023 cannot support fresh borrowings. The newspaper says the federation account allocation committee disclosed that it will share N786.16 billion May 2023 revenue among the three tiers of government.
Daily Trust reports that Vice-President Kashim Shettima said the federal government is committed to eradicating variant poliovirus by the end of 2023. The newspaper says the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) said airlifting of Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia will end on June 24.
Daily Independent reports that the Department of State Services (DSS) has raised an alarm over planned attacks on worship and recreational centres before and during Sallah celebration. Nigerian Tribune reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has kicked against the plan to increase electricity tariff by 40 percent on July 1. The newspaper says the presidency has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has not approved salary increase for political office holders.
