Rishi Sunak is sparing the public from “net zero pain” with his decision to delay a number of environmental policies, according to the Daily Telegraph. The paper reports that the prime minister said that not rowing back on the plans could cause a “revolt” from voters.

The Times describes the prime minister’s decision to scale back green policies as a “gamble” saying the move distanced himself from plans he inherited from Boris Johnson in a bid to present himself as a “change candidate” at the next election.

The Daily Mail reports that Rishi Sunak has promised to spare families the “ruinous cost of net zero” by taking on “eco-zealots” and pushing back the date for banning petrol and diesel cars to 2035.

The Metro leads on the news that James Bulger’s murderer has again been granted a parole hearing. Jon Venables, 41, who killed the two-year-old in 1993 aged 10 along with Robert Thompson, will “kill a child again” James’ mother, Denise Fergus, told the parole panel. Venables has been in and out of prison several times since his initial release in 2001. The hearing will decide whether or not he could be eligible for an early release.
