The PUNCH: Thousands of Maiduguri inhabitants have been displaced, with the Nigerian Correctional Service recapturing three inmates after a jailbreak, while 80 per cent of animals at the Sanda Kyarimi Park zoo died as Borno State suffered its most devastating flood disaster in 30 years, The PUNCH reports. Following the disaster, President Bola Tinubu, who’s currently abroad, called for the immediate evacuation of residents in communities overtaken by floods.


Vanguard: The Federal Government yesterday rejected accusation of rights abuse made against it by the United Kingdom (UK) Trade Union Congress (TUC), over the arrest of Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), insisting that nobody, including the NLC president, is above the law in Nigeria.


The Nation: Nigeria’s maiden foreign-currency domestic bond recorded a subscription of $900 million, overshooting the initial offer size of $500 million. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, spoke on the results of the landmark sovereign bond yesterday. He said the oversubscription of the $500 million further highlighted continuing investor confidence in Nigeria’s economic stability and growth.


Daily Trust: The flooding that hit Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in the wee hours of yesterday has submerged hundreds of houses and destroyed lots of properties. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that over 200,000 people were displaced.
