A recently released report by the World Health Organisation (WHO) has identified Nigeria as the leader of the four African countries that accounted for over half of all malaria deaths worldwide in 2021.
The March 29 report states that Nigeria is responsible for 31.3 percent of such deaths. The other three countries named alongside Nigeria are the Democratic Republic of the Congo with 12.6 percent, Tanzania with 4.1 percent and Niger with 3.9 percent.
It was also revealed in the report that 247 million cases were reported in the same year, indicating a two million increase when compared with the 2020 record.
African was said to be home to about 95 percent of all malaria cases and 96 percent of deaths.
