Thirteen-storey building collapses, leaving numerous people buried under rubble

A thirteen-story building housing holidaymakers over the summer months has collapsed in Egypt, leaving numerous people buried under rubble. 

The building in Alexandria suffered a catastrophic collapse and the exact number of people trapped beneath the rubble is unknown.

Rescue teams are searching the site, trying to locate survivors and clear away the debris.

Municipal officials have not yet provided an official count of casualties, but a police report seen by local media outlets states the building collapsed due to a ‘vertical split’ in the structural integrity of the building.

Nearby hospitals have been on high alert and prepared for the arrival of potential victims, reports suggest.
