Kano govt removes Bayero, replaces Sanusi’s portrait in Coronation Hall

Anxiety enveloped the city of Kano, yesterday, following the sudden resurfacing of the portrait of the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, in Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.

Prior to the development, the popular Coronation Hall, presently undergoing renovation, had the portraits of Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and his counterparts in the four emirate councils.

The development revived the rumoured plan to reinstate the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), three years after his unceremonious dethronement.

Former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje dethroned the vocal technocrat in 2020 for alleged insubordination and failure to attend the newly established emirate council meeting. Sanusi was also accused of working against the sitting government.

However, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, vowed to revisit issues involving the removal of Sanusi in office. Kwankwaso made the comment when the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won the last election and reclaimed Kano from APC.

Although Governor Abba Yusuf has neither refuted nor confirmed Kwankwaso’s comment, his administration had, on several occasions, described the NNPP government as a continuation of Kwankwaso’s administration.
