More than 25,000 birds have been killed by a flood that ravaged Matuuci Farms Ltd., an automated complex located in Ogbaru council area of Anambra state.

The flood also adversely affected fish, potatoes and other crops.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Patrick Sule-Ugboma, proprietor of the farm, said about 400 staff of the company had been directed to stop work and operations have ceased.

Sule-Ugboma said the farm, which sits on 20 hectares of land, had lost a fortune to the disaster.

“We have lost more than 25,000 poultry birds, fish in our ponds worth several millions of naira, and numerous other property worth several millions of naira,” NAN quoted him as saying.

Sule-Ugboma said the flood also affected some bridges on Onitsha-Ndoni road, especially Umunnakwo bridge.

Sule-Ugboma said the bridge collapse poses danger to residents and travellers, who often cross the river by wooden boats.
