Salaudeen Abdulkadir, the chief missioner of the Igbomina-Ekiti Muslim Forum, has suggested that Muslim women who wish to fast during Ramadan but face menstrual cycles can opt for medical interventions to delay their periods.
Mr. Abdulkadir made this assertion in Ilorin during the annual Ramadan lecture organized by the Igbomina-Ekiti Muslim Forum national headquarters.
He emphasized that as long as the process did not pose any risk to women’s health, they could adjust their menstrual cycles to observe the complete month of Ramadan.
According to Mr. Abdulkadir, Islam offers guidance applicable in every circumstance, and experts in Islamic Jurisprudence have affirmed that women can delay their cycles if they choose to do so.
The cleric emphasized that Ramadan fasting, mandated by Allah for believing Muslims, serves both health and spiritual purposes, while also acknowledging that Allah does not burden humans beyond their capacity.
He cautioned Muslims against practices contrary to Islamic teachings, such as screaming, shouting, or invoking Allah’s name in vain, stating that these actions are prohibited.
“When you obey Allah, He will hold you in high regard. You must follow His injunctions to draw nearer to Him,” Mr. Abdulkadir advised.
Furthermore, he underscored the significance of reading the Holy Quran during Ramadan, highlighting it as “the month of the Quran.”
Mr. Abdulkadir clarified that while Ramadan fasting is obligatory, individuals facing severe health conditions that threaten their lives are exempted from the obligation.
He emphasized the uniqueness of Ramadan fasting, prescribed by Allah Himself, distinguishing it from fasting practices in other cultures.
Nasuredeen Ibrahim, the national president of the association, echoed Mr. Abdulkadir’s sentiments, urging Muslims to maintain constant remembrance of Allah and gratitude to Him in all circumstances.
Regarding the economic challenges in the country, Ibrahim advised that it is an opportune time to deepen one’s connection with Allah amidst all difficulties.
“We should do the little we can. Allah has not overburdened us, and He will accept. But you cannot diminish the mandated Ibadah,” he concluded.
