Julius Abure, Chair of the Labour Party (LP), has alleged that funds designated for workers’ salaries disappeared during a recent picketing of the LP secretariat by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja.
During the Wednesday picket, NLC members demanded the postponement of LP’s national convention slated for March 27 and called for Abure’s resignation.
The NLC accused Abure of financial mismanagement and disregard for NLC leadership, alleging that he unilaterally planned a convention against the party’s constitution.
In response, Abure, through LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, condemned the picketing as “shameful,” citing property damage and theft, including money intended for salaries.
He criticized NLC President Joe Ajaero for undermining the LP’s electoral progress, urging collaboration for national development instead of confrontation.
Abure emphasized Ajaero’s failure to organize successful strikes and highlighted NLC’s confrontational stance towards the LP.
