Heartbreaking news emerged from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) as one of its staff tragically lost his life while on duty.
Kunle Olubiyo, representing the Nigerian Consumer Protection Network, shared the distressing incident with DAILY POST on Monday.
The victim, Josia Jim, met his unfortunate end while working on a faulty feeder within the Garki District. The power supply was unexpectedly restored, catching Jim off guard and leading to his electrocution.
Adding to the sadness of the situation, it was revealed that Jim had already endured the loss of his wife approximately two years prior.
Olubiyo expressed deep concern over the lack of proper coordination between AEDC and the Nigerian Transmission Company, citing it as a contributing factor to the tragic incident. He emphasized the necessity for improved communication tools and protocols among technical staff to prevent similar accidents in the future.
Furthermore, Olubiyo stressed the importance of adhering to global safety standards to avoid such devastating electrical incidents. He called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to prioritize safety measures and prevent further loss of life in the line of duty.
