Calls for Dangote to be considerate in petrol pricing grow louder

As the Dangote Petroleum Refinery commences local supply of petrol in Nigeria, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ogun State, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has appealed to the refinery’s owner, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to be considerate and prioritize patriotism/nationalism over profit. Showunmi emphasized the importance of affordable petrol prices for Nigerians, who have faced significant financial burdens in recent times.

In a statement, Showunmi praised Dangote’s contributions to the country’s development, acknowledging his investments in various sectors and the employment opportunities he has created for Nigerians. He urged Dangote to demonstrate selfless love for the people by ensuring that the pricing of petroleum products from his refinery remains reasonable and accessible to the masses.

The Abeokuta-born politician described Dangote as a great gift to Nigeria and the African continent, highlighting the industrialist’s efforts to redeem the pride of the Black race. He emphasized the need for nationalism, patriotism, and empathy to guide Dangote’s actions, acknowledging the importance of profit but stressing the greater importance of serving the nation’s needs.

Independent petroleum marketers in Nigeria have expressed optimism that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will sell petrol at a competitive price, potentially reducing the cost of fuel for consumers. With the refinery’s anticipated impact on the market, Nigerians may soon benefit from more affordable and accessible fuel options.
