Maiduguri floods leave over 150,000 children stranded in 26 camps – Save the children

Save the Children (SCI) in Nigeria has reported that over 150,000 children have been displaced by flash floods in Borno State, with 300,000 found in 26 displacement camps. The situation is particularly concerning as it occurred during the lean season, when malnutrition is at its peak.

The state government has shown impressive leadership in response efforts, but there is an urgent need for more resources and stronger coordination to scale up life-saving interventions. SCI has 200 staff working on the ground, collaborating with the Borno state government, the UN, and other international NGOs to respond effectively.

With 300,000 people registered in 26 camps, half of the population is children, and SCI hopes to minimize the loss of life and protect children in this crisis.
