Nigeria Abroad
Studying abroad is not limited to European, American or Asian universities, and the most important thing to consider is quality education and a system that works.
Although Africa is beset by myriad failings in many sectors—including in education—some African countries still shine in the classroom.
Here are 7 African universities you could apply to if you want to study within the continent:
- University of Cape Town, South Africa
This prestigious university was founded in 1829 and has consolidated its place academically on the global map. The institution provides scholarship opportunities to foreign students. Even before the pandemic, the school was running online and offline classes. Although tuition isn’t that affordable, you can always work extra hard on your entrance exam and your application to ease your path to getting a scholarship. Cape Town is also one of the most beautiful places in South Africa. You can find other details on the school’s website.
- Aswan University, Egypt
Located in Tingar, Egypt, Aswan University granted its first set of bachelor’s degrees in 1978. Aswan is ranked 113th in the world—that’s great considering how many universities there are in the world. Aswan also accepts a good number of foreign students. Although it is unclear whether the school offers scholarship opportunities to the foreign students, you can still prepare for that possibility.
- Makerere University, Uganda
This is one of Uganda’s best universities. It started out as a technical school but expanded into a university and has since graduated thousands of students from within and outside Uganda. It’s also one of the country’s biggest and oldest. Makerere is rated No.8 in Africa and 569th in the world. Everything you need to know about the courses offered, tuition, scholarship opportunities and general application is available on the school’s website.
