Boss of toy firm likens Felixstowe strikes to tanker that got stuck in Suez Canal

The boss of toy firm The Entertainer has likened the impact of the strikes at the Port of Felixstowe to that of the tanker that got stuck in the Suez Canal and caused global delivery chaos.

Gary Grant, founder of what has become one of the UK’s largest toy retailers, says goods bound for his stores could be caught up in the disruption caused by striking workers at the Suffolk port. 

Nearly 2,000 members of the Unite union have walked out of their jobs at the site, which is the UK’s largest container port, in an ongoing dispute with its owner’s over pay.

This has interrupted £700million worth of trade and triggered fears there could be shortages in the lead-up to Christmas after it affected goods bonds for supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco and Marks & Spencer.
