Buhari, Osinbajo, others not mandated to make asset declaration public – CCB

NAIJA NEWS

President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and other public officials preparing to leave office are not under compulsion to make their asset declaration public.

Naija News reports that the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has revealed that there is an Act that does not make it mandatory for public officials to make their asset declaration public.

Speaking with The Punch, a senior official of the CCB, Veronica Kato, said the CCB Act even though did not mandate it, officials on their own can make it public willingly.

Kato said the bureau could only make public asset declaration documents available by a court order in a case where a public official was under investigation or trial for alleged corruption relating to the acquired assets.

She said: “It is not possible to make the assets declared to the CCB by these public officials public. There is a law guiding the CCB and that law does not allow us to do so. This is due to the conditions upon which the assets declaration is constituted according to the guidelines.
