Bank customers rush to reactivate dormant accounts amid CBN guidelines

Bank customers have flocked to their banks to reactivate their dormant accounts in compliance with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) guidelines on managing dormant accounts and unclaimed balances.

In Abuja on Tuesday, some customers told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that they had reactivated their accounts to protect their savings from being forfeited.

Mrs. Ugonne Akputa, a businesswoman, mentioned that she deposited money into her six-year-old Access Bank account, which she had neglected, to bring it back into activity. She explained that she needed the account to save money, which she seldom withdrew.

“I visited my bank to inquire about my account, which I had not used for a while. They advised me to deposit funds to reactivate it, so I did,” she said.

Mr. Cyprian Yusuf, another customer at First Bank, came to inquire about his late brother’s account. Although he was unsure of the account balance, he was determined not to lose the money.

“Upon learning about the dormant account regulations, I decided to quickly visit my late brother’s bank to find out how to retrieve the funds. He passed away three years ago, and I don’t believe the account has been active since then.”
