The Nigerian Air Force announced on Sunday that its Air Component of Operation Delta Safe successfully destroyed 13 illegal refining sites, 10 overhead tanks, and multiple gallons of illegally refined products near Obizor and Okoloma.
In a statement, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, noted that this success was due to increased patrols by the Air Force, particularly in the Niger Delta region.
“In one of its most successful operations along the Imo River near Obuzor and Okoloma, several active illegal refining sites were found exploiting the challenging terrain to carry out their illegal activities,” the statement said.
“These sites, totaling about 13, were subsequently destroyed after the aircraft crew utilized onboard weapons. Additionally, several overhead tanks connected to reservoirs and numerous gallons were destroyed during the operation.”
