The Lagos State Police Command is yet to provide updates on its investigation into a case against one of its senior officers accused of defiling a 17-year-old girl in his office.

One month after the command issued a statement saying it had arrested the unnamed officer, there has been no other update on the matter.

In early July, a report claimed a policeman, attached to the Area H Command in the Ogudu area of Lagos, took advantage of a girl who visited his office to report a matter.

According to the report, the girl was a victim of robbers who took her phone on June 16. Less than two weeks later, the policeman invited her to his office saying he had apprehended the culprits.

When she arrived, “He got up to lock the door and put the key in his pocket. I shouted, ‘Sir, why did you lock the door?’ He started trying to pull my clothes off and I shouted, then he brought out a gun, cocked it, and threatened to shoot me if I shouted,” the girl narrated to The Punch.

“Then he began harassing me, and when I struggled with him he hit me on the back of my head with the gun and raped me.

“I saw his phone ringing and the caller was my mum, but he told me since I didn’t have a phone with me, I should tell her I didn’t get to his office and from now on I should be reporting at his office by 12 pm every day during school break or while returning from school that he had been watching me for two years and now I just fell into his trap.”

After the incident, the girl’s mother accused the police of a coverup, but the police claimed in their July 14 statement that they were not going to cover the matter up.

On Wednesday, FIJ called Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesman, but he did not answer our calls. FIJ called Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, afterwards but he requested that we send him a text message.

At press time, Adejobi had not responded to this message.
