Morocco defeated Madagascar 3-2 to secure a record third CHAN title, with Lamlaoui’s wonder strike sealing victory.
Morocco cemented their dominance of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after defeating Madagascar 3-2 in Saturday’s final at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, to claim a record third title.
The Atlas Lions, champions in 2018 and 2020, were led by star striker Oussama Lamlaoui, who netted twice to finish as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals. His 40-yard strike, described by CAF Online as a moment when “Lamlaoui spotted goalkeeper Michel Ramandimbisoa off his line and unleashed a stunning effort that sailed into the net,” proved decisive.
Earlier, Lamlaoui opened scoring before Toky Rakotondraibe equalised for Madagascar, but Sabir Bougrine restored Morocco’s lead. Lamlaoui’s wonder strike extended the advantage before Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa pulled one back late on.
The victory earned Morocco $3.5 million in prize money, while debutant finalists Madagascar settled for $1.2 million. Despite defeat, they made history as the first island nation to reach a CAF senior final, earning admiration across Africa.
