“Deborah Erema lost her daughter. She died after struggling alone all these years to fend for her mother, Erema Deborah, and her younger brother, Precious Kingsley, who is also here alongside his mother,” the source said.
Deborah Erema, a former domestic worker for ex-First Lady Patience Jonathan, has spent five years in detention without trial over alleged stolen jewellery. Her daughter, struggling alone, fell ill and died—but Erema was barred from attending the burial. Relatives say families are threatened and denied prison visits.
Among 15 detained since 2019 is Salome, a sickle cell patient arrested while pregnant and later chained to a hospital bed during delivery. “She never had stable health after,” a source said.
Bayelsa police claimed unawareness but promised investigation. The detainees, including Erema’s son, remain jailed despite no convictions, sparking outrage over alleged injustice and abuse.
