You can’t resume in Senate now, NASS tells suspended Kogi Senator Natasha

ABUJA – The National Assembly has rejected Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s planned resumption, insisting her six-month suspension remains valid until the Court of Appeal rules on her case.

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, acknowledged Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notification of her intent to return but clarified that her suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, is still in force.

“The matter remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption,” the letter read.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended in March for alleged insubordination after rejecting a change of her designated seat during plenary. The suspension, recommended by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, also stripped her of office privileges, aides, and salaries.

The senator has consistently linked her ordeal to her petition accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment — allegations the Senate dismissed. While she claims a court judgment favoured her recall, Senate leadership maintains the suspension stands until judicial review is complete.

Her lawyer, Victor Giwa, said she plans to return to plenary when the Senate reconvenes on September 23.
