Israel’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on Saturday said that Lebanon’s armed group Hezbollah had decided to “participate in the fighting” and that it would pay a “heavy price” for its attacks against Israel.

“Hezbollah has decided to participate in the fighting, we are exacting a heavy price from it,” Yoav Gallant was quoted as saying by the Times of Israel.

Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel have been trading fire at the frontier on an almost daily since terrorist group Hamas, attacked Israel on October 7 and Israel responded with fierce air strikes on Gaza.

The fighting has been the deadliest at the border since Hezbollah and Israel went to war in 2006.

On October 15, Israel’s defence minister said that Israel had no interest in waging war on its northern front, and that if Hezbollah restrained itself then Israel would also keep the situation along the border as it is.

The United States had warned Iran, which backs Hezbollah and the terrorist group Hamas, against getting involved in the crisis, and deployed two aircraft carriers which it says aim to deter any state or non-state actor seeking to escalate the war
