Israel will “wipe [Iran] off the face of the earth” if Tehran-backed Hezbollah fighters intervene in the war against Hamas, a top Israeli official said Sunday, calling Iran “the head of the snake.”
Nir Barkat, Israel’s Minister of Economy, issued the warning during an interview with the Daily Mail, as the threat of a larger regional conflict loomed.
“The plan of Iran is to attack Israel on all fronts,” Barkat told the outlet. “If we find they intend to target Israel, we will not just retaliate to those fronts, but we will go to the head of the snake, which is Iran.”
“The Ayatollahs in Iran are not going to sleep good at night,” Barkat continued. “We are going to make sure they pay a heavy price if, God forbid, they open the northern front.”
Barkat referred to Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon, who have engaged in sporadic fighting with the Israel Defense Forces along the Israel-Lebanon border since the October 7 terror attacks that left over 1,400 people dead.
Should Hezbollah join the conflict in a more forceful manner, Israel will strike back — and it won’t stop there, Barkat said.
“Lebanon and Hezbollah are going to pay a heavy price, similar to what Hamas is going to pay,” he said. “But that’s not enough.”
“The very clear message is that we are going to be going after the heads of Iran as well,” he continued. “When will we do that? When we decide.”
