Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for two planes to be dispatched to Amsterdam to bring back Israeli fans who had been violently assaulted by an anti-Israel mob in the Dutch city, the premier’s office has announced.
Supporters of Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team were attacked in Amsterdam on Thursday night as they left the stadium following a Europa League game against Dutch side Ajax.
At least 10 Israelis have been hurt in the attacks, but it’s unclear how severe the injuries are, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement, adding that the affected fans are currently out of touch and that it’s advising Israeli citizens not to leave their hotels.
Israel’s National Security Council has asked people not to display any Israeli or Jewish symbols in public.
