Man, 37, is charged with attempted murder after ‘popular’ nurse stabbed ‘with a pair of scissors’ on busy A&E ward

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a nurse was stabbed at an NHS hospital.

Rumon Haque, 37, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article after the alleged attack at the Royal Oldham Hospital on Saturday.

Haque, of Royton, Oldham, Greater Manchester, was remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning.

The female staff member, in her 50s, is in a critical condition in Royal Oldham Hospital where the attack took place at 11.30pm.

The nurse was left with ‘life changing’ injuries after she was allegedly assaulted in the Acute Medical Unit, attached to the accident and emergency department, at the hospital.

It is believed that she was attacked with a sharp instrument that was not a knife.
