Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has said he could be meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky in the “next few days,” according to the TASS. The sides are expected to discuss crucial issues surrounding the transit of Russian energy.
Kiev terminated the transit of Russian natural gas through its territory to the EU on the last day of 2024, effectively cutting off the flow to some countries in the bloc, including Austria, Italy, and Slovakia. Ukraine has refused to extend the deal, sparking division in Brussels.
Fico warned last week that if transit does not resume, he will veto EU-wide initiatives on assisting Ukraine, and would also take individual action against Kiev. Zelensky claimed that Kiev was aiming to eliminate Moscow’s profits.
